Recently, at a Tesla media briefing, Tesla Global Vice President Tao Lin stated that the energy storage super factory will be completed as planned by 2025, making it Tesla’s first energy storage super factory outside of the United States. Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory will continue to maintain its current production status and has great confidence in the Chinese market.
Location of Energy Storage Super Factory
In addition, with regard to the expansion of Tesla Supercharging Station and the high prices reported by consumers, Tao Lin said that the expansion of Tesla Supercharging Station in Chinese Mainland is always in progress. Price is a market behavior and will try to meet the market demand.
In May of this year, Tesla’s first energy storage super factory project outside the United States, the Shanghai Energy Storage Super Factory, began construction. The project is adjacent to the existing Tesla Shanghai Super Factory.
Project investment and production capacity
The total investment of the project is about 1.45 billion yuan. The Shanghai Energy Storage Super Factory mainly produces large-scale commercial energy storage batteries Megapack, which support grid operators and utility companies to store and distribute renewable energy more efficiently.
Tesla stated that each Megapack battery can store over 3MWh of energy, enough to meet the electricity needs of 3600 households for one hour. The factory is expected to have an annual production capacity of 40GWh, which is equivalent to producing 10000 Megapack batteries per year.
