Li Auto made an official announcement on April 8th that the Li Auto L6 will debut on April 18th. Positioned below the Li Auto L7, this mid-size SUV accommodates five seats and aims for a price range between 250,000 and 300,000 yuan (approximately $38,000 to $45,600).Earlier, Liu Jie, Vice President of Li Auto, stated that the company plans to release three more electric vehicle models in the third and fourth quarters of this year, all equipped with electric four-wheel drive and 5C supercharging technology.
The Li Auto L6 is built on Li Auto’s second-generation extended-range platform. Notably, Li Auto has established a new production line specifically for this new model, located within the existing Changzhou production base of the Li Auto ONE. The same base also produces the Li Auto L9, L8, and L7 models simultaneously.
Li Auto L6 preview
The Li Auto L6 retains the familiar family design language. Based on spy shots and patent images, it appears that the new vehicle will feature a laser radar system.Compared to the Li Auto L7, the front fascia of the new vehicle features an optimized continuous lighting strip with a narrower profile. Both sides of the Li Auto L6 retain the yellow light source, and the design of the front bumper vents showcases a noticeable difference compared to the Li Auto L7.
In terms of the vehicle’s side profile, the differences between the L6 and L7 are subtle. From the actual vehicle images, the L6 has a noticeably shorter wheelbase and rear overhang.A salesperson who has seen the actual vehicle has noted that the Li Auto L6 is noticeably smaller in size when compared to the L7. The dimensions of the Li Auto L6 are 4925mm in length, 1960mm in width, 1735mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2920mm. In contrast, the Li Auto L7 measures 5050mm in length, 1995mm in width, 1750mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3005mm. The size data clearly indicates that the Li Auto L6 is smaller in dimensions.
At the rear of the vehicle, the Li Auto L6 features a continuous taillight design. Unlike the L7, the license plate is still located on the bumper, and the overall size of the tailgate is not small. The Li Auto L6 has undergone adjustments in the position of the reflector strips on both sides of the bumper.
The powertrain of the Li Auto L6 includes a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine serving as the range-extender system, capable of generating a maximum power of 113 kW. The main power source consists of front and rear dual electric motors. The battery supplier remains NED (CATL) and EVE Energy (EVE), similar to the Air and Pro versions of the Li Auto L8. However, it is important to note that previous filings indicate the models are equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. It remains uncertain whether there will be versions with ternary lithium batteries in the future. We will continue to follow this development.
