Recently, foreign media exposed a set of spy photos of what appears to be Tesla’s new entry-level model, which is expected to be based on the next-generation platform. According to previous foreign media reports, Tesla’s new entry-level model is internally codenamed Redwood and is positioned as a compact SUV/crossover. It is expected to be officially put into production in June 2025. The price is expected to start at US$25,000 (approximately 179,800 yuan).
The aerial photo was taken inside Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory, after Musk revealed during a visit to the factory that entry-level electric vehicles will be produced in Germany. The rear shape of the camouflaged car parked next to Model Y is different from Model Y and Model 3. The entire vehicle is smaller in size and looks like a fastback-style coupe SUV.
According to reports, this low-cost electric car will be a brand new model that is different from Tesla’s existing models. It will feature a smaller body size and simpler design to reduce production costs. At the same time, it will also be equipped with a smaller battery to further reduce costs. Despite its low price, the car will still feature Tesla’s usual high performance and safety.
Previously at the Tesla Investor Conference held on May 17, 2023, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced more information about the next-generation platform model. He said that Tesla is developing two new models. The annual production capacity of the two new cars is expected to exceed 5 million units. Regarding this cheap version of Tesla, Musk once commented on it: “Let’s be clear, it will be cool, but very practical. Model 2 is your scooter that can help you get to your destination quickly, but It won’t be as exciting as Cybertruck”. In other words, Model 2 will not be equipped with too many advanced technologies, but the exterior design will be very beautiful.
