When communicating with car owners recently, I found that many BYD car owners have some concerns about BYD’s free battery replacement policy. They are worried that the replacement battery will be a refurbished battery or an old battery, which will result in the actual battery life not being much different from the original battery, or the effect will be improved. Not obvious.

Previously, our public account shared the real battery replacement experience of a Han rider. Judging from his experience, BYD is quite good at implementing the free battery replacement policy. So, what is the battery life experience of riders after battery replacement? Let a car friend share his actual experience after replacing the battery.

Introduction to riders:

This car enthusiast owns a 715 Chuangshi Han purchased in June last year. This summer, he felt that the vehicle’s cruising range was about 50 kilometers lower than when he first bought the car. So, he conducted a charging test using a fast charging pile. The test results showed that when the battery was charged to 9%, only 79 kWh was charged. Calculated based on this data, if it is fully charged from 0%, it can only be charged to 86 kilowatt hours. There is obviously a problem with this data, because normal fast charging will cause about 10% energy loss. In other words, Chuangshihan’s battery capacity should be 85.4 kilowatt-hours of electricity, and it will be about 64 kilowatt-hours of electricity when fully charged. This is normal, unfaded battery capacity.

So, the car owner went to a BYD store to replace the battery. The whole process took more than 4 hours, but the replacement battery was produced in February 2023. He is not sure whether this is related to the batch of Chuangshihan, because after March 2023, the championship version model has been launched. He raised this concern with the store and received an affirmative answer that there was no problem. Of course, if there is a problem, he will contact them again.

Note: There is a small incident, that is, there should be 300 kilowatt-hours of electricity compensation when replacing the battery, but sometimes they may not provide it if you don’t ask for it.

The compensation has arrived, and the battery replacement did not make a loss but still earned 300 consolation money in vain.

Now let us focus on the issue that car enthusiasts are most concerned about: whether the battery life has been significantly improved after replacing the battery. Here are the results we announced: Battery life has indeed improved. In the picture below, you can see that the car covered 562 kilometers on one of its trips, of which over 300 kilometers were highway and winding road driving at the weekend, and the remaining 200 kilometers were daily commuting. Commuting city roads. If the battery is completely exhausted for driving, it is expected to reach 600 kilometers. If there is no high-speed driving, the overall cruising range is estimated to be close to 650 kilometers.

The picture below shows the difference in charge level, the difference visible to the naked eye. According to the ratio calculation, the charging capacity of the newly replaced battery is exactly in line with the estimated 0-100% charging in my previous post, which should be about 94 degrees. This value is normal.

The charging capacity of the newly replaced battery, calculated proportionally, should be about 94 degrees for the estimated 0-100% charge.

The difference in charging capacity between the old and new batteries is 7.5 kWh, which is almost 10%

Moreover, on the day when the battery was replaced, the energy consumption per 100 kilometers dropped significantly compared with other vehicles on the same road section. I’m not sure whether this is related to the energy consumption calculation method and battery capacity, because even though the old battery has been attenuated, the standard battery life after full charge is still displayed as 715 kilometers, which means that the actual battery capacity is about 77 degrees (after attenuation). However, the energy consumption formula is still calculated based on the standard battery capacity of 85.4 degrees, so the driving range is shortened and the energy consumption per 100 kilometers will naturally increase. The numerator in the formula remains the same, but the denominator becomes smaller, so energy consumption per 100 kilometers increases.

Of course, the above is just my guess at the calculation method, and the actual situation may not be so simple.

After replacing the battery, the power consumption has dropped significantly.

Therefore, if my guess is correct, then this also explains why the same car has high energy consumption for some people and low energy consumption for others. In fact, part of the reason is because different vehicles’ batteries leave the factory in different states. It is easier for vehicles with good battery quality to achieve low energy consumption, while it is difficult for vehicles with poor quality batteries to achieve low energy consumption. (Of course, the main influencing factors must also include altitude, temperature, road section and driving habits, etc. What I mentioned above is just a guess based on my actual experience)

Finally, I would like to talk about the BYD Sincere Extended Warranty promoted by many after-sales services. Extended warranty and battery replacement are two different concepts. Extended warranty mainly protects the eight core components of the vehicle, excluding the battery, motor and electronic control (commonly referred to as the three batteries). Therefore, if the battery is broken, the extended warranty is not included; if the engine is broken, it is not covered by the Sandian warranty.

I personally purchased BYD’s extended warranty from a group buying group of car enthusiasts. The reason is that BYD is a relatively intelligent model with many electronic components. Unlike traditional fuel vehicles, they cannot be repaired at any time on the roadside. If a part is damaged and needs to be repaired externally, Sanden’s lifetime warranty will be voided. If there is no extended warranty, the cost of repair at BYD’s official maintenance center is often between 5,000-10,000.

The official extended warranty price of BYD Han EV Genesis Edition is 5,120 yuan (can be found on the official app), and car enthusiasts can get a discount of more than 500 yuan through group purchases.
