The BYD FCB brand unveiled the production version of the FCB 8 at its Spring Launch Event on April 16th. The vehicle will also be on display at the Beijing Auto Show. Reports indicate that the FCB 8 is based on the BYD DMO Super Hybrid Off-road platform and is intended to be a large SUV with a three-row seating configuration. It features the Yunnian P chassis for enhanced performance and capabilities.
The FCB 8 positions itself as a direct competitor to the Land Rover Land Cruiser, offering comparable product capability as a rugged large SUV with a three-row seating layout. However, its pricing in the million-yuan range in the parallel import market suggests that the FCB 8 is not specifically targeting the Land Rover U8 market. The market eagerly awaits to see if the pricing of the FCB 8 will be comparable to the highly anticipated Toyota Prado, as it will greatly influence its market positioning. Additionally, if the FCB 8 is priced at approximately 500,000 RMB, it will directly compete with the Tank 700 Hi4-T.
Previously, Xiong Tianbo, the General Manager of FCB Auto Sales, announced that the launch of the FCB 8 is scheduled for the second half of this year.Overall, the FCB 8 adopts the same square-box design as the FCB 5, featuring a rugged appearance. It retains the design of a roof-mounted periscope tower, with a laser radar positioned in the middle.
The FCB 8 features a longitudinally mounted high-power engine, a dedicated CTC battery, and a dedicated off-road rear-drive unit, all of which contribute to its exceptional performance and capabilities. It integrates an electronic differential lock and can achieve a maximum of 21 gear ratios in low-speed off-road mode. The peak power of the rear motor is 285 kW, with a peak torque of 400 N·m. Additionally, the new vehicle will also feature the Yunchen-P Intelligent Vehicle Control System, providing impressive water fording capabilities.
In terms of details, the front face of the new vehicle adopts the popular continuous light strip design. The hood of the vehicle features two muscular lines, and the lower part of the front end adopts a bite-type structure for secure and reliable connection.
The DM-o hybrid system, integrated into the new vehicle, employs a dedicated hybrid architecture that is purpose-built for off-road applications. This design ensures the vehicle possesses substantial power capabilities. Moreover, the FCB 8 will feature the Yunnian P Intelligent Vehicle Control System, which enhances its water fording capabilities. This advanced system impresses users with its performance in demanding aquatic environments, further highlighting the vehicle’s capabilities.
