On July 25, 2024, the BYD Song L DM-i was officially launched, with a total of 5 models available at a price range of 135800 to 175800 yuan. At the same time, the official also launched six major listing rights, including finance, rejuvenation, smart connectivity, warranty, charging, and extended warranty services. The BYD Song L DM-i is positioned as a mid size SUV and will be sold on Wangchao website in the future, filling the product gap between the Song Pro DM-i and Tang DM-i. The biggest highlight of the new car is the installation of BYD’s fifth generation DM technology, with a maximum comprehensive range of up to 1500 kilometers.

In terms of appearance, the vehicle still continues the Wang Chaowang family design style. Its upper part is very similar to the previously launched Song L pure electric version, except for the addition of a large-sized grille design for engine heat dissipation, and the two sides are also equipped with ventilation openings to enhance the sportiness. In terms of body color, the new car will offer four options: ice green, French green, tea crystal gray, and Runyu white.

Moving to the side, the wheel arches of the Song L DM-i adopt a round rectangular design, which, combined with the upper ribs, creates a good sense of power. It is equipped with 19 inch low wind resistance dragon scale wheels inside, and the tire model is Jinhu 235/50 R19. In addition, it also features a hidden door handle design to showcase its new energy attributes, while the new Song PLUS DM-i still adopts a transmission door handle design. In terms of body size, the new car has dimensions of 4780/1898/1670mm in length, width, and height, and a wheelbase of 2782mm.

At the rear of the car, the new car has a large area of chrome decoration at the D-pillar position, which is connected to a two-stage rear spoiler design. The through type taillights adopt a “Chinese knot” style structure for the lamp cavity, showing a good sense of fashion overall. The black and silver rear bumper showcases a certain off-road attribute, and the exhaust also adopts a hidden design to form a cohesive whole.

Entering the car, the overall interior layout of the new car is consistent with the Qin L DM-i, but the three spoke steering wheel and T-shaped center console layout seem to intentionally imitate the shape of the “Song” character. In terms of color matching, Jinsha pottery color scheme is used, combined with 31 color ambient lights, which is very charming.

In terms of configuration, the new car will be equipped with a suspended 15.6-inch central control screen with a built-in DiLink 100 operating system, using a 6nm process chip and a computing power of 136k. In addition, there are HUD head up display, 10 speaker Infinity sound system, 50W wireless charging, heated steering wheel, and DiPilot level driving assistance features with paddle shifters for lane changing, among others.

The car adopts a 5-seat layout, with thick seats overall. The front row is equipped with electric seat adjustment, heating and ventilation functions, and the rear row has air conditioning vents and charging ports. The space in the trunk also performs well, with a storage capacity of 459 liters and a maximum capacity of 1550 liters when the rear seats are folded down.

In terms of power, the Song L DM-i is equipped with the fifth generation DM technology, which consists of a 1.5L engine and an electric motor. The maximum power of the engine is 74kW, the maximum power of the electric motor is 160kW, and the maximum thermal efficiency of the engine reaches 46.06%. Its power battery will provide two capacities of 12.9kWh, 18.3kWh, and 26.6kWh, corresponding to pure electric range of 75km, 112km, and 160km (CLTC condition), comprehensive range of 1450km and 1500km respectively, and fuel consumption of 3.90L/100km (NEDC condition). In addition, the new car also supports a 6kW external discharge function, enriching outdoor usage scenarios.
