The popularity of compact SUVs is evident, and one of the reasons for their popularity is that they are relatively affordable in terms of price. Additionally, Chinese consumers have a special fondness for SUV models. However, in this era of the rapid development of new energy vehicles, many consumers have also developed a liking for pure electric vehicle models. However, due to the high battery costs associated with pure electric vehicle models, their pricing is generally higher, which poses a challenge for many consumers. But today, we bring you a model that not only achieved a sales volume of 309,835 units in 2023 but also incorporates many advanced technologies in the industry. This model is the BYD Yuan PLUS, a pure electric vehicle.

Currently, the BYD Yuan PLUS has 22 and 23 models. Among the 22 models, there are currently 5 models available for sale, with a price range of 139,800 to 167,800 yuan. Among the 23 models, there are also 5 models available for sale, with a price range of 135,800 to 163,800 yuan. From the price point, we can see that the 23 models of the BYD Yuan PLUS have seen a certain price reduction compared to the older models. Furthermore, the current 23 models of the BYD Yuan PLUS also have a discount policy of 3,000 yuan. So today, let’s take the Yuan PLUS 2023 Championship Edition 430KM Leading Model (hereinafter referred to as Yuan PLUS) as an example and see what makes this car stand out. Is it the price or the quality?

As part of the BYD Dynasty series, the Yuan PLUS adopts the BYD’s “Dragon Face Aesthetics” design for the front end. The sharp headlights, the front bumper with a continuous ventilation opening, and the silver chrome decorative strip not only enhance the visual width of the vehicle but also elevate the overall refinement of the front end. As for the side profile, the Yuan PLUS gives a sense of fullness, and it also features a continuous design language for the character lines, along with slightly curved lines, which further enhances the overall sense of layering.

Regarding the rear design, the Yuan PLUS also gives a sense of fullness, and like the front end, it features a horizontal black decorative panel in the rear bumper. Combined with the integrated taillights and high-mounted brake light, as well as the spoiler decoration, the overall design exudes a dynamic feel.

In terms of interior design, the BYD Yuan PLUS features a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel wrapped in leather. However, the size of the fully digital instrument panel is relatively small, measuring only 5 inches. Fortunately, the central control screen measures 12.8 inches and is rotatable. With features such as an application store, navigation system, 4G connectivity, OTA upgrades, and voice recognition control system, the infotainment system is well-equipped for daily use.

Furthermore, despite its compact size with a length of only 4455mm, the Yuan PLUS offers ample space. With a wheelbase of 2720mm, even for someone of my height, 1.75 meters, there is approximately a two-fist distance for legroom in the rear seats and about a one-fist distance for headroom. Additionally, thanks to the all-flat design of the center console, it is also quite friendly for the middle passenger.

In terms of power, the Yuan PLUS is equipped with a front-mounted single motor, which delivers a maximum output power of 150 kW and a maximum torque of 310 N·m. While the power may not be exceptionally strong, it is sufficient for daily commuting. As for the power battery pack, the vehicle adopts BYD’s blade battery technology with a capacity of 49.92 kWh, providing a pure electric range of 430 km. With a fast charging time of 0.5 hours, it can easily handle daily commuting or family transportation scenarios.

Based on the above analysis, many consumers may have the misconception that the performance of the Yuan PLUS is just average. In fact, it does align with its price point. However, within the price range of 130,000 to 170,000 yuan, although there are several pure electric models, they often have certain disadvantages in terms of brand recognition and quality control compared to the Yuan PLUS. The Yuan PLUS demonstrates excellent quality control, while models with stronger performance often come with a much higher price tag. Therefore, the Yuan PLUS performs quite well in terms of its price. So, when it comes to the strengths of the Yuan PLUS, I believe both its price and quality control are equally important.
