Disassembly and Interior Materials
With the improvement of living standards, people’s demands for cars go beyond just good looks, excellent features, and enjoyable handling. They now have higher requirements for the “substance” of the vehicle. However, this part is not easily visible to ordinary consumers. Therefore, I believe that it is meaningful to disassemble the car and show it to everyone.
BYD has launched a new SUV called the Yuan PLUS, and it is said that both its exterior and interior are remarkable. Adhering to a rigorous evaluation approach, we have purchased the Yuan PLUS to thoroughly disassemble it and see if its “substance” lives up to the rumors.
The BYD Yuan PLUS (hereinafter referred to as the “Yuan PLUS”) is built on the BYD e-platform 3.0, which has four highlights: safety, efficiency, intelligence, and aesthetics. As a new generation of Dragon Face aesthetics, the Dragon Face 3.0 design language integrates electric and futuristic elements into the outdoor appearance of the Yuan PLUS. It is worth mentioning that the designer has made numerous optimizations to the styling, allowing the Yuan PLUS to achieve a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.29Cd among vehicles in the same class.
Without further ado, let’s move on to the disassembly process!
1.Interior Materials
We have already discussed the design of the Yuan PLUS, so let’s focus on its material selection. BYD strictly controls the interior materials of the Yuan PLUS to address the common issue of a strong “new car smell.” The Yuan PLUS uses materials from well-known suppliers (Beineke) and high-quality materials (TPO materials, water-based PVC leather, etc.), surpassing national standards for VOC emissions.
In terms of manufacturing processes, BYD has also made upgrades. In addition to regular injection molding, the Yuan PLUS also utilizes negative mold molding and hot pressing, reducing the use of adhesives and improving the overall odor of the vehicle. This is the reason why “even as a new car, it doesn’t have a new car smell.”
The door panel is equipped with three “strings,” which provide a visually refreshing appearance while maintaining the practicality of traditional fixed partitions. Since they are “strings,” they can produce sound. As for the pitch, let’s just enjoy it without delving too deep into it. It is worth mentioning that the “strings” are not just for show; they are designed to be quite sturdy and can withstand a considerable amount of force.
2.Soundproofing Materials
In addition to the visible materials in the interior, there is a significant portion hidden behind the trim panels. These materials play a crucial role in determining the vehicle’s NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) performance. The soundproofing and noise reduction design of the Yuan PLUS cabin mainly consists of five insulation pads and three sound-absorbing cottons. The five insulation pads include the front hood pad, front cabin pad, front bulkhead pad, integrated carpet pad, and rear floor pad. The three sound-absorbing cottons are located in the side panels, ceiling, and dashboard.

Vehicle Body Structure and Chassis Design
1.Vehicle Body Structure:
In terms of safety, the BYD Yuan PLUS incorporates the essence of the BYD e-platform 3.0, including a specially designed body structure for new energy vehicles, reinforced subframe, and the globally unique blade battery technology. The Yuan PLUS body utilizes a significant amount of high-strength steel and incorporates various energy-absorbing and buffering designs.
The front anti-collision beam is made of high-strength steel with a B-shaped cross-section, effectively enhancing its impact resistance. The front area is designed to be rigid, while the rear area is focused on cushioning. The energy-absorbing box is designed with outward expansion and features grooves on its sides to better guide the transfer of forces during collisions. This design not only protects occupants and important components but also effectively disperses the impact force of a collision.
2.Chassis Design:
The Yuan PLUS adopts a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension combination, which is a common configuration in its class. However, its front subframe is a distinctive feature of the BYD e-platform 3.0 – a full-frame structure. Although it is a simple structure, it comes at a higher cost and offers excellent impact resistance. In contrast, many other vehicles in the same class use semi-frame subframes, driven by cost considerations.

Electrical System and Intelligent Control

The blade battery system essentially uses lithium iron phosphate batteries. In low-temperature environments, the activity of the materials decreases, affecting the range. Therefore, the heat pump system employs a battery direct cooling and heating mode, where the heat generated by the heat pump air conditioning compressor and high-pressure system directly heats the battery pack with refrigerant. This method eliminates the need for secondary heat exchange, resulting in fast operation and high efficiency.

Intelligent domain control architecture – The control architecture continues to evolve towards domain control, with high-level intelligent driving continuously improving. The integration of CUP has increased by 30%, and the interaction efficiency has increased by 50%.
In addition to the innovations in the electrification technologies, BYD has also made significant advancements in the field of intelligence. The BYD e-platform 3.0 incorporates the intelligent domain control architecture and the self-developed in-vehicle control system, BYD OS.
The intelligent vehicle control domain integrates multiple modules, including BCM (Body Control Module), security gateway, key center, air conditioning control, tire pressure monitoring, instrument control, parking assistance, and intelligent key. The expanded version supports up to 32 distributed ECU (Electronic Control Unit) functions.
The intelligent power domain integrates modules such as VCU (Vehicle Control Unit), BMS (Battery Management System), MCU (Microcontroller Unit), OBC (On-Board Charger), and DC-DC (Direct Current Converter).
